FINGER LICKING GOOD!!! MMMM!

FINGER LICKING GOOD!

I need urgent help! Those of you who know me will know that Ive been married now for comning up to 5 months masha'Allah wow!!!! Anyways in say those last 4 and half months I have experimented cooking for my husband and alhamdulillah all the dishes Ive made from your Chicken Korma to Jamaican Jerk Chicken as well as the pineapple deserts and freshly baked cakes have alhamdulillah turned out good!!! I was just starting to think hmm ok my cooking is kind of alright and my husband seemed pleased alhamdulillah!

Anyways last week my husband decided that he wanted to do some cooking for me so I gladly accepted... He first cooked so daal (lentils) which although may sound plain actually tasted soooo good and it was a really tasty dish... I was secretly glad that I had not attempted to cook it so far as I knew his would have been way better than mine...then the real blow came yesterday!!!
My husband decided he was going to cook me some lamb chops! I thought hmm ok!

Im not joking those chops were the best ever chops I have ever tasted in my whole entire life...I really understood what the meaning of 'Finger licking good' is.... those chops!

Masha'Allah I have discovered that he is a fantastic cook way better that me... all the dishes Ive cooked in the last 4 and half months all put together are nothing compared to the chops he cooked... I can not explain the flavour the marinade which he made himself was sooooo good and the meat just melted in your mouth wow! Alhamdulillah it was excellent! My plate was left way cleaner than this one in the picture... im telling you his chops would tempt even a vegetarian (no offence to anyone).

Now you all are probably thinking 'Stupid girl whats she panicking about?' Well let me explain... for the last say 4 and a half months I had led myself to believe that I was quite a good cook really I had and then one fine day.... BAM my whole cooking world was shook when my husband decided to show me his cooking skills... oh yeah I forgot to mention the rice he made to go with the chops was perfect each grain given its own right not sticky just perfect masha'Allah... Yes so as I was saying my problem is that after last nights chops I no longer think I am able to cook again not when I know such a fine chef is going to be eating it so I need help from everyone... I need magical recipies... you know all your best cooking secrets so that once again my empty pot gains confidence... and Im serious please all of you have pity on little old me and send me your cooking secrets everything welcome!

Assalaamu alaikum.
I think the secret is to strive for excellence in simplicity. This seems to be how your husband impressed you.Lamb and lentils are relatively simple fare, but he obviously prepared them with such care that you were bowled over with his cooking skills.
Instead of getting all hot under the collar spending hours preparing fancy dishes and spending a fortune on unusual ingredients, try to perfect the following: rice(both basmati and mediterranean rice (baldo, arborio, Egyptian)), roasted and grilled meat (no tips here, as I am not particularly good in this department apart from roast lamb and stuffed chicken) and lastly bread. Bread is one of the best things to impress with as not only does homebaked bread have a look and taste all of its own, but it also fills the house with a wonderful smell (aim to have it baking, or just out of the oven when he arrives home!).
If you have a library card I recommend your local library for borrowing recipe books, or copying out recipes. Nigella Lawson's "How to be a domestic goddess" is particularly good for bread as the recipes are relatively easy to follow.

Awwww Umba that was such a cute post. I can't believe you, mashaAllah i hope your husband appreciates your efforts. This might make you feel better though. My dad is a way better cook than my mum by miles, but he doesn't do it that often. I've been quite taken by this talent, I havn't fully worked it out yet, how some men can just be like this. But me thinks maybe becos they don't do it on a regular basis, when they do, do it they put more effort and care, attention to detail and so fourth or maybe its just flukes, or maybe they can cook like 2 or 3 things and thats it. Its a tough one, but don't worry inshaAllah, as long as your cooking don't give him food poisoning be happy, well thats my standard anyway. All the best on your mission super chef!!!

My husband is a very good cook . Their is nothing like the smell of home made bread wafting when you open the door. To bring out the flavour of lamb if you are roasting it slash the lamb ad stick 5 or 6 cloves of garlic that have been slice thinly inot it. Save the juices and add to the gravy also rub black pepper and salt on.

Assalaamu alaikum,
Humble muslimah that's exactly how I prepare my lamb! As I said in my previous post, I am not particularly good at roast meat, but lamb done in this fashion consistently comes out really tasty, masha'Allah.

I'm an awful cook so I can't readily supply you of awesome recipe to wow that chef husband of yours. I've noticed men are surprisingly natural chefs - it takes little time for them to cook-up "finger licking good" dishes. Take my father, he's actually a better cook than my mom and she's a great cook. Any of his meat dishes leave me wanting to eat even my fingers. Anyway, you are blessed with his gift so don't worry too much about excelling him. He's probably not as good as you when it comes to certain dishes; it'll take time for you to find out. In the meantime, hang in there, try out new things. You know, now I'm wondering if he feels the same way - you being a better chef than him. ^____^

And thanks for commenting on my page. I've actually visited your page several times before. Thanks for sharing a bit of yourself with visitors like me. I'll come often now.
